JAL Sakura Lounge Haneda (Terminal 1 North Wing) After Renovation: Window View and Crowds

On October 17, 2026, before heading to Miyakojima, we visited the JAL Sakura Lounge in Haneda Airport Terminal 1 North Wing. It had only just reopened after its renovation on October 8, 2026.
I entered as a JAL Global Club (JGC) member and spent the time before departure looking out at the planes through the window. The interior was beautifully renovated, but it was crowded because the South Wing lounge is closed for renovation.

How to get in
The lounge is open to JMB Sapphire and above, JGC members, JAL domestic First Class passengers and others. One companion can also enter (children under 3 do not count). This time I entered as a JGC member.
The North Wing has its own dedicated security checkpoint.
Renovation highlights
According to press reports, the renovation brings these changes:
- Four areas: dining, relaxing, working and kids
- The working area is mostly semi-private partitioned seats, and most seats have power and USB ports
- Window seats facing the apron
- A new kids’ area (designed by Bornelund) and a nursing room
- A new menu item: kelp-dashi “drinkable dashi” at the beverage counter
- “ART CANVAS,” displaying works by artists contracted with HERALBONY
The seat count stays roughly the same as the roughly 390 seats before the renovation, and the capacity is described as “almost unchanged.”
The view from the window

Through the large windows you see the runway and the apron, and JAL aircraft moving about. The counter seats facing the window have power outlets, and some people had their laptops open. It is a nice view for passing the time before departure.
The wood-grained interior has a soft, unified feel. The renovated Sakura Lounge was beautiful.
Food and drinks
We had a beer and a small dish of snacks.
My wife tried the new “drinkable dashi.” Her verdict: “It tastes like dashi… hmm.” Since it is basically kelp dashi to drink, tastes will likely differ.
What we liked
- The interior was beautifully renovated.
- We could watch the planes on the apron through the big windows.
- The counter seats facing the window have outlets.
What could be better
- It was crowded.
- The “drinkable dashi” may not suit everyone (my wife: “hmm”).
I think the crowds are because the South Wing Sakura Lounge closed for renovation on October 8, 2026. It is due to reopen in June 2027, and until then Haneda’s domestic Sakura Lounge is the North Wing only. If you want a window seat, it is probably best to arrive early.
Summary
The renovated Sakura Lounge has a beautiful interior and lets you wait for your flight while watching the planes through the window. While the South Wing is closed it tends to be crowded, so allow some extra time.
If you are a JGC member or fly domestic First Class, do stop by before your flight from Haneda. For the lounge before renovation, see our South Wing report.
